FAQ

What is a Safety Management System (SMS)?

SMS is the formal, top-down, organization-wide approach to managing safety risk and assuring the effectiveness of safety risk controls. It includes systematic procedures, practices, and policies for the management of safety risk. (FAA Order 8000.369)

What is “Common Carriage”?

There are four elements in defining a common carrier; (1) a holding out of a willingness to (2) transport persons or property (3) from place to place (4) for compensation. This “holding out” which makes a person a common carrier can be done in many ways and it does not matter how it is done. See AC 120-12 for further information.

How are fees paid to ACS for their service??

Depending on the complexity of the Certification and the items required an estimated total cost is prepared. A deposit of 33% is required to start service followed by 11 monthly payments for the remainder. ACS is available either on a monthly basis or a “pay as you go” basis for items like SMS or OPSS updates, Manual updates, and additional certification like going from Domestic to Flag or going from 9 or less to 10 or more.
