Safety Management Systems (SMS)

For Part 121 Air Carriers, Safety Management System (SMS) is a requirement under Part 5 of the Federal Aviation Regulations requiring a Safety Policy, Safety Promotion, Safety Assurance and a Safety Risk Management designed into your organizational structure.

Our team will provide the guidance to facilitate adding SMS into your day-to-day business arrangements.

For Parts 135 and 145, although not mandatory, the FAA is moving in the direction of requiring SMS for these Federal Aviation Regulations and our objective will be to “scale” SMS to the scope of your Operation and Maintenance activities.

Using the tools outlined in Advisory Circular 120-92, and “scaling” SMS to the scope of your operation we will work with your team incorporating the applicable tools for your successful SMS!

What is a Safety Management System (SMS)?

SMS is the formal, top-down, organization-wide approach to managing safety risk and assuring the effectiveness of safety risk controls. It includes systematic procedures, practices, and policies for the management of safety risk. (FAA Order 8000.369)

SMS introduces an evolutionary process in system safety and safety management. SMS is a structured process that obligates organizations to manage safety with the same level of priority that other core business processes are managed.
